Fruit Wood Bowls

These bowls are turned green to final shape and thickness and allowed to dry and deform. If the bowl walls are turned to an even thickness and relatively thin, (less than !/4") the inevitable movement can take place without cracking. The results are somewhat predictable but never certain and it's always a mini adventure to see what happens!

I turn these bowls in woods such as Apple Cherry or Mayday and also Russian Olive depending on availability. Once these trees are cut the race is on to make something before the wood splits into firewood.
